Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan mengeksplorasi bagaimana pembelajar dewasa Bahasa Inggris sebagai Bahasa Asing (EFL) membangun motivasi dan identitas melalui narasi personal pembelajaran bahasa. Kebaruan penelitian ini terletak pada pengungkapan hubungan antara pembelajaran bahasa Inggris, rekonstruksi identitas, dan pemulihan emosional pembelajar dewasa di luar lingkungan akademik formal melalui pendekatan narrative inquiry. Metode penelitian menggunakan analisis naratif tematik dengan melibatkan tiga pembelajar dewasa dalam wawancara mendalam semi-terstruktur. Hasil penelitian mengungkap tiga tema utama: menemukan kembali diri melalui bahasa Inggris, pergulatan dengan rasa malu dan takut, serta bahasa Inggris sebagai alat pemberdayaan diri. Temuan ini membuktikan bahwa pembelajaran bahasa Inggris bagi orang dewasa tidak hanya bersifat linguistik, tetapi juga menjadi proses transformatif untuk memulihkan trauma pendidikan masa lalu. Penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa narrative inquiry efektif untuk memahami kompleksitas motivasi pembelajar secara humanis. Implikasi praktisnya menekankan pentingnya pedagogi yang responsif secara emosional dan praktik kelas yang menegaskan identitas pembelajar dewasa.
