Pendekatan TaRL (Teaching at the Right Level) dalam Mengembangkan Program Literasi pada Komunitas Baca

Abstract

Pengabdian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kompetensi petugas Taman Baca Masyarakat (TBM) di Kota Surabaya dalam menjalankan program literasi yang efektif dan berkelanjutan melalui pendekatan Teaching at The Right Level (TaRL). TaRL merupakan pendekatan yang menyesuaikan metode pembelajaran dengan tingkat kemampuan peserta, bukan berdasarkan usia atau jenjang pendidikan formal. Pendekatan ini diterapkan di lima Taman Baca Masyarakat (TBM) untuk meningkatkan efektivitas program literasi berbasis komunitas. Pengabdian ini menggunakan metode Asset Based Community Development (ABCD) dengan tahapan discovery, dream, design, define, dan destiny. Data dikumpulkan melalui Focus Group Discussion, observasi, dan wawancara dengan pengelola TBM serta peserta program. Hasil pengabdian menunjukkan bahwa pendekatan TaRL meningkatkan keterampilan literasi dasar peserta dan kapasitas pengelola TBM dalam menyusun program yang lebih adaptif. Pengelompokan peserta berdasarkan kemampuan membaca memungkinkan pembelajaran lebih efektif dan inklusif. Program ini juga memperkuat jejaring komunitas dan keterlibatan masyarakat dalam pemberdayaan literasi. Hasil pengabdian ini berkontribusi dalam mengembangkan model pembelajaran literasi berbasis komunitas yang lebih inklusif dan berkelanjutan, serta dapat diadaptasi di berbagai daerah untuk meningkatkan literasi masyarakat
